1) Who are you?
I’m Tristan. I’m a 27 year old photographer from Sydney, Australia. I’ve spent my life here and love it, but also love to travel. I’ve spent time all over Europe, parts of South East Asia and South America, Canada and the US. I’ve also travelled Australia riding and racing my road bicycle. Yep, I wear lycra, and yep, I shave my legs. But don’t hold that against me. I’m actually really quite cool… or at least that’s what my mum tells me. I spend a lot of time in the ocean, surfing, a lot of time on my bicycle, pedaling, and a lot of time behind the lens, photographing.
2) How long have you been a photographer?
I’ve been a full-time wedding photographer for 7 years now, however I first picked up a camera when I was 11. Technically it was a video camera, and I was making a film about skateboarding with a friend, but since that day I’ve been hooked on the “creating” thing. I started still photography when I was 17 and was shortly after published in a number of Australian and international magazines, winning a coveted award for “Best New Photographic Talent” in [R]evolution Magazine when I was 18. 3) How many weddings do you photograph per year?
I run a boutique photography service and have a limit of 26 weddings per year. This keeps your images creative, unique and special, and allows me the time to edit them with great care. If you’re considering booking but haven’t yet decided, please don’t hesitate to get in touch to put a hold on your date – with limited bookings dates tend to fill up fast.
4) Do you photograph every wedding yourself?
Yes, I do. I am the self-appointed lead photographer at The Bow and photograph every wedding myself. I do have a number of people I employ to be my second shooters, assistants and lunch-preparers, however I take charge of creating every image you see on my site, and every image you’ll receive.
5) Do you travel for weddings?
Yep! I love to travel! In fact, more than 50% of my weddings are away from Sydney. If you’re having a destination wedding, or if you live outside of Sydney and would like me to photograph your wedding please don’t hesitate to get in touch. I travel all over Australia and internationally.
6) Have you photographed cultural weddings?
Plenty! Australia is a beautifully diverse country and I love celebrating the different cultures we have here. I've photographed Chinese tea ceremonies, four-hour Sri Lankan ceremonies, Greek Orthodox ceremonies, Grooms arriving on horseback, 30-drummers-in-a-room and good-old fashioned Aussie backyard ceremonies, plus a bunch more. I'm no stranger to something a little different, so if you're integrating an international element into your wedding i'd love to be there to photograph it.
7) What’s the best way to get awesome photos from our wedding day?
There are three aspects to getting amazing wedding photographs. First, book with me! (Ha ha!) Secondly, plan the portrait shoot with sunset in mind. I know this isn’t always possible, but the best photographs come with beautiful late afternoon light. Where possible, I usually ask for the location shoot to end just after sunset, to utilise that last hour of gorgeous golden light. It’s flattering, it makes for great mood in your photographs, and it has me jumping around like a crazy person creating awesome images of the two lovers (that’s you…) in front of my camera. And finally, and most importantly, just be yourself. Relax, joke around, and be intimate with your new husband or wife. Forget there’s a camera present, focus on each other and the images will come. My style is very candid so you don’t have to do anything for me other than enjoy yourself. Trust me, I’ll say it again, if you relax and enjoy yourself, the images will come.
8) How much do you charge for wedding photography?
I have a number of options for photography coverage. Six, nine and twelve hours, to suit any size or length of wedding. Six hours photography starts at $2999 and you’ll receive all the best images in high-resolution and web-resolution, perfect for printing, or for emailing and Facebooking. You’ll also receive an online slideshow (private link) of the best 150 images set to music, which looks great, is fun (and emotional) to watch, and makes for a great way to pass on your photos to family and friends. I also love to produce albums and think they’re the best way to showcase the day. Which leads me to my next question…
9) Do you produce albums?
Yes! I’m so glad you asked. I genuinely believe albums are the finished product, through and through, and I encourage every couple to order an album with their coverage. All albums are hand-designed by me (with your input on image choice), and look impeccable once printed. Check out a sample HERE, or I can show you one in the paper when we meet.
10) How many photos will we receive?
On average I produce roughly 60-80 images per hour of coverage, however this number does vary. It’s not uncommon for me to deliver 1100 images from a 9 hour day. All your images are professionally colour-corrected and sprinkled with magic editing dust by me, to make sure they look incredible.
11) Do you have an option for a second shooter?
Sure! A second photographer is a great option. Whilst I work predominantly alone I do also have a number of professional wedding photographers I employ to work with me on weddings. Second photographers are useful when the bride and groom are getting ready quite a long distance apart, and for having multiple angles of the ceremony. 12) How long will it take for us to receive our images?
Most weddings take between 4 and 8 weeks to deliver, depending on whether the wedding is held in peak season or the quieter months. If you’ve ordered an album (I highly suggest you do!), you’ll receive your digital images first before I start work designing your book. Once the album design is approved by you, it takes 4 weeks to receive.
